MAMA.codes TEACHING CHILDREN AGED 3-8 HOW TO CODE

MAMA.codes is a dynamic, investor-backed and fast-growing EdTech brand, offering unique, creative coding classes for children aged 3-8, as well as home and video tutoring.

Established in 2017, we are a parent-powered organisation that not only empowers children of all backgrounds and learning styles to code confidently, but we also inspire more women in tech as 90% of our reps, tutors and TAs are women working flexibly and sharing this vital skill with their local communities. We passionately believe that every child deserves to have access to the core 21st-century skills that will not just be standard, but expected, in the jobs of the future.

We embed key coding skills such as problem-solving and logical thinking in each project - but crucially the final result is driven by each child’s imagination. There’s no limit to the worlds they can create when learning is fun!

Our unique methodology teaches pre-reading children coding in the way they learn language - through active, repetitive and contextual learning, delivered through creative coding projects they construct through nursery rhymes, jokes and stories.

THE PROBLEM OUR CHILDREN FACE

The world works in code; however, a significant problem persists. Although coding is on the curriculum from age 5 in England, primary and early years teachers lack consistent training and resources to teach it confidently and effectively. Meanwhile, parents we speak to describe themselves as “keen but clueless” about supporting this new area of the curriculum.

THE SOLUTION

We have developed a curriculum that teaches coding as a language, at the age children are most receptive to learning languages: under 8 years old. By using icon-based visual coding, we are accessible to pre-readers, unlike most of our competitors who use text so have to start at age 7+.

A recent parent satisfaction survey scored us 9.1 out of 10.

OUR GROWTH & TRACTION:

REACH:

We have taught over 2,500 children to date in our community code clubs across London, Hertfordshire & Northern Ireland!)

COMMUNITY:

Our classes are run by a network of committed flexible-working Licencees, who teach and manage local clubs. This keeps our costs variable.

SCHOOLS:

We are partnered with 12 schools, and are endorsed by the Girls Day School Trust who represent 24 independent UK schools alone. We’ve also trained 60 teachers in our method.

EQUALITY:

We strive to maintain a minimum of 50% girls in our classes and re-define what a coder looks like.

OUR COMMUNITY CROWDFUND

At the core of our beliefs are Empowerment, Inclusivity and Accessibility. So, to reflect this we decided to work with our community and networks first to raise an initial amount of the total funds, and give everyone who loves our vision a chance to become a part of the process (and the business!) before anyone else. We were blown away by the interest we received in the first round and more than tripled our target of £50k.

Our next round is only open to Sophisticated, Professional & Experienced Investors. If you fall into this category and would like to know more about investing in MAMA.codes, please register your interest below and we'll be in touch shortly.
